When March 8th becomes a Masquerade
Entela Resuli writing for “Historia Ime”
Albanian citizens continue to spend March 8th as a celebration for women. It is very similar on how many ex communist countries still “celebrate” this day.
March 8th has had some mixed elements of celebration, while instead it should have been a protesting day. You could not even make a difference if this was the mother’s day or women’s day or the Saint Valentine’s Day!
The way of commemorating this day continues to be paradoxical.
We still do not understand why in a society where women are treated almost as despised marginalized humans, this same society still finds the “strength” to mocks by celebrating! Celebrating what?! The very most persecuted part of the society? .
March 8th 2015 was in Albania nothing more than an occasion to report the same kind of “news”: where women are killed, when women are abused and insulted in a systematic way, when women emigrate all over the world, when women feel like they are some sort of “jewelry” in a society that does not know what path is walking on…
March 8th is like a masquerade: when men and women of this society laugh upon their dignity.
It is more or less, a possibility to mirror this society: we laugh or celebrate on the things we need to change…
Everyday should be March 8th because I believe we have every day reasons to remember our mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters and to encourage them to protest and to be vocal on their demands for change.
