The Pretender of Albanian Throne gives a message of tolerance for LGBT community
Prince Leka, the Pretender of Albanian Throne has made public for the first time the position his family has towards LGBT community. Against all forecasts it sounds like Prince Leka is giving a message of tolerance and comprehension, although not a direct support.
In his Facebook page, Prince Leka writes in English:
“Our tolerance as a nation cannot be selective, but should be an added value within our dynamic culture. The way that law abiding citizens choose to live their private lives, no matter their sexual orientations, is something very personal”.
He also adds: “With tolerance comes greater freedom, which in-turn comes with greater responsibility to respect the opinions and choices of others and not impose ideas or a model of life to others. The Albanian Royal family will always advocate the importance of information as an informed society has greater moral judgement”.
Some politicians associated with the royalists like Ekrem Spahiu, Murat Basha, Sulejman Gjata, have been previously actively opposing LGBT rights and community. But this is the first time that the Albanian Royal Family (which by its old Constitution is upon every political party) makes public its position on LGBT issues.
