LGBT colors at the garden in front of the Presidential Palace in Tirana
Tens of LGBT activists in Albania have left a unique trace during the evening in the garden in front of the Presidential Palace in the capital, Tirana. They painted all the benches of this small garden with the colors of LGBT flag and wrote various messages like “Gender is not a limit for Love”, “We are everywhere”, “All different but all equal”, etc.
This was a repeated action from The Alliance Against Discrimination. The first one was completed during 2010 and it was one of the first visible political and communication actions from the emerging LGBT community, although underground, who consider such events not just a moment of socializing and having fun but also an important tool in their process of feeling part of the same identity and cause.
“We imagine all the people who will sit in those benches to relax but also to recall childhood memories or their love stories, and probably to think that the phrase that reminded them about love was written by a group of young people are forced to live with fear during everyday of their life, and that is not fair”, said Eugert A., one of the activists who took part in this action.
